My goal is to create beautiful portraits in a comfortable relaxed environment and to make your portrait session FUN! I know how important it is to document our children as they grow and enjoy creating beautiful children’s portraits just as much as families love having the photos to enjoy for a lifetime. This is the reason that I prefer to conduct my sessions in your home or in a place where you and your children are familiar and comfortable such as your home or a local park because I believe that it is easier to relax and be yourselves. This will result in the very best possible portraits.

The session can be done with natural light in your home or I may add some simple portable studio lighting if necessary. I will strive to use your home or the location of your choosing as the backdrop of the portraits, however I do have a portable studio with backdrops and studio lighting that I am able to set up if there is available space. Sessions usually last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. I will never hurry you along and we can take all the time needed to be sure that we get a good sampling of portraits for you to choose from. Newborns and young babies often need the most time as they will often require comforting, soothing and nursing.

If there are important items that you would like to have included in the portrait such as a special blanket or toy, please have them ready and prepared prior to the session.

STEVE DePINO
If you feel like singing a song and you want other people to sing along. Then just sing what you feel Don’t let anyone say it’s wrong

Hi and thanks for stopping by.
I’m Steve a lifetime resident of Guilford, CT. Even though I have lived in a few other places like Philadelphia and New York, Guilford has always been my home. There has always been a part of my heart that loved my home town, and I couldn’t think of living anywhere else. So in 2005, I bought my first home across the street from the baseball diamond where I played my first little league game. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Photography has always been sort of second nature to me; and not all because of skill, but because of practice. Let me explain. When I was little, I would beg my parents to bring me to Disney World year after year. When we would go, they would always give me the camera to take photos of the trip. Even at under 10 years of age, I took most of our vacation photos. This gave me some of my skill, but the best lessons came when I didn’t even have a camera in my hands. My dad once told me, after I ran out of film and got upset, that I should just use my "eyelids like a shutter and capture moments in my mind." At the time, I never realized what kind of impact something like that would have on my life. Yet twenty years later, I can still remember exactly what the sphere at EPCOT looked like that day. And I still practice taking "eye" pictures every day without even having a camera in my hands.
Now I’m shooting weddings and loving it. I meet great people every day, and I could not be more thankful that I am able to make this my career. I’m always looking for new ways to shoot weddings and love talking to anyone interested in the field. I’m always here to share ideas. If you would like to see what I’m currently up to, please stop by my blog on this web page.
I travel all over the world for my events and build special packages for those events. Please feel free to inquire about your destination wedding!

My name is Elizabeth.  Liz for short.  Mae in the Middle.  Lauer at the end.

I cry at every wedding.  I find myself laughing at everything…instead of taking pictures of it.

My first love is the horse, second people, third my camera and last chocolate.

I read everything I can get my hands on.  I don’t like the food on my plate to touch.  I am sooo a morning person.

Blue mason jars with fireflies inside are my favorite.  As are cupcakes, birdcage veils, the smell of a new book and my dog, Leila Loo.

In May I will graduate from Western Kentucky University with a degree in photojournalism and entrepreneurship.  I heart the photo part, loathe the journalism.  Mostly, I am in love with making friends and telling their stories.

Thanks for visiting my bird photography website. I hope you enjoy looking through my photos and maybe get a few tips from my tutorials.

Ever since my teen years, I’ve had a keen interest in birds and photography. Over the last few years, inspired by some of the fantastic bird images published on the Web, I’ve tried to develop and combine these interests.

Many bird photographers concentrate on getting photos of rare birds, even if these are only ‘record shots’.  What really interests me, though, is images that have a ‘wow factor’, even if these are of a common species.  For me, this can mean several things (click on the links for my best attempts in each case):
*
a photo with real detail, such as a ‘head and shoulders’ bird portrait (example)
*
a shot that captures the beauty or essence of a particular species (example)
*
a photo that sums up an event in time, such as the life-or-death struggle between predator and prey (example)
*
an image that is photographically or aesthetically strong, e.g. with great lighting and composition (example)

In the hope of taking photos with these qualities, I invested in a digital SLR camera in late 2004 and have gradually upgraded my gear since then.

Technical details for anyone who’s interested…  I bought a Nikon D70 camera, initially with the very cheap 70-300mm G zoom lens which I later replaced with a Nikon 80-400VR zoom.  I tried a Kenko Pro 300 1.4x teleconverter, but without much success.  In April 2006, I finally decided to take the plunge and buy a ‘pro’ 500mm lens.  Since the Nikon 500mm f4 lens didn’t have vibration reduction/image stabilisation, I went with the Canon equivalent, with a 30D camera body and Canon 1.4x extender.  In February 2008 I bought a Canon 40D body and in June 2008 I added a Canon 300mm f4 IS lens for close work and portability.

The first thing I learned about bird photography is that it’s far more difficult than it looks!  I’ve spent countless hours learning about the birds themselves, where and how to get close to them, how to photograph them, how to process digital images, how to create a website and more.  Despite this, I know I’ve still got a lot to learn.

The other key thing I’ve learned is just how much pleasure you can get from every step of the process, from fieldwork to publishing and exhibiting and, more recently, helping others to develop their bird photography skills.  In particular, you never tire of your own favourite images: each one of them instantly transports you back to the time and place that you took the picture, and recreates the transient connection you had with the bird.  Try it for yourself!

By the way, the vast majority of my images are of wild, free-flying birds.  However, I am happy to photograph captive birds on occasion.  In all such cases, I have indicated that this is a captive bird in the ‘alt text’ for the image in the Galleries section.  I also state this in the image legends in the Latest Images section.

In my spare time, I now contribute as Photo Editor for BirdGuides, who host the Web’s best birding site, with rarity reports, webzine articles and a huge collection of bird photos uploaded by over 1000 photographers.

If you’re interested in any of the following, send me an email with the details:

general advice, including image critiques (see my tutorials covering bird photography basics)
*
bird photography tuition via one-day workshops on a one-to-one or small group basis (run at weekends)
*
illustrated talks
*
editorial or commercial use of my images (see my published images)
*
conservation or charitable use of my images (for which I normally do not charge)
*
framed or unframed prints (see my page on ordering prints).
